Fear wins out
It's hard to comprehend how a immoral, dishonest criminal has enough charisma and marketing prowess to dupe 51% of our country's voters. They have given into fear and whipped up fallacies. And reports say the economy. So we live in times when citizens put their own good first (financially) and believe anything that threatens that, ignoring the poor. It feels like God has turned away from America. That God can no longer look at a nation that claims to follow Christ but takes steps to exclude, hate and give in to fear. God help us! Do not turn away!
This is not unlike the cries of some people in the Bible. God's people were given a promised land to garden and care for its people, and they turned away and worshipped their own gain. People were sent into exile where it seemed like God had turned away. Those who returned to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem were the minority, "Who is it who has seen this temple's former glory?" Haggai, and leaders had to work to get people to follow God again (and not themselves). What is a follower of Jesus supposed to do after a devastating election cycle like this one- where the president has both houses of Congress and the Supreme Court and all checks and those in his own party seem powerless to oppose him? I'm left with the impulse to bury myself more in the scripture and study it with open-hearted people. God's plan will not be issued in by government. I also plan to pray for people who have let fear rule over their thinking...
